Terms of Use

These terms apply to use of San Mateo County Residents Directory. By using the reference, you accept these conditions. Anyone who does not accept them should leave the site and not use its links or search tools.

1. What This Reference Is

San Mateo County Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections connected with San Mateo County and California. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with an agency, court, library, or other records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the reference and anything reached through it only for lawful purposes. Prohibited conduct includes using it to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make FCRA-regulated decisions (credit, employment, tenant, insurance)
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Interfere with the site's operation or security

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency

This reference is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither its content nor a result from a linked search tool is a consumer report, and neither may be used to decide eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose covered by the FCRA.

4. Outside Links and Tools

Government portals, library resources, archives, and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, operate under their own rules. San Mateo County Residents Directory does not control their content, availability, charges, or data practices.

5. No Warranties

The reference is offered "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. Accuracy, completeness, currency, uninterrupted operation, or correct results from an outside portal are not promised.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of the reference or an outside resource, including a decision based on a record reached through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operators from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that arises from misuse of the reference or breach of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Links to pages and brief attributed quotations are welcome. Republishing full pages or copying the content systematically is not permitted.

9. Changes to These Terms

A new version may be posted here at any time. Continued use after the posting of a revision means the revised terms are accepted.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms or abuses the reference, at the operators’ discretion and without prior notice.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by California law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. References to California public-record access use the California Public Records Act in Government Code Division 10, §§7920.000-7931.000; the statute’s exemptions and custodian procedures control the underlying record. The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, is codified at Civil Code §1798.100 et seq. and governs qualifying privacy requests to the extent applicable.

12. Severability

If a provision is found unenforceable, that result affects only the provision to the extent required, and the remaining terms continue.
